RAMON ACES BELGIAN CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER

Team Suzuki Press Office - May 3.

Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1's Steve Ramon was able to build on his recent bright form with a superb overall victory at the Beervelde circuit for the first round of the 2010 Belgian Championship on Saturday.

The 30 year old veteran won both motos in dry and dusty conditions across the Flemish sand on the works RM-Z450 WS and added another garland to the podium trophy he obtained last week at Valkenswaard for round three of the FIM World Championship.

Ramon tussled throughout the first moto with Ken De Dycker and was able to end an entertaining contest in resilient fashion by overtaking his countryman on the last lap for his first triumph. A holeshot and escape let the former world champion have an easier time in the second race. His 1-1 scorecard represented a great day's work for 'The Bomb'.

"It was good to win" he said, "I had a good race with De Dycker in the first moto and I could see that he was slowing towards the end so I could attack. In the second race I had the holeshot and pushed hard at the beginning to break away. My starts were really good again this weekend and even though the track was dusty and pretty tricky I was happy with my riding. After the podium at Valkenswaard and now this I feel confident going to Portugal this week."

Team-mate and 2009 Belgian Champion Clement Desalle will undergo a medical check today (Monday) to further determine the extent of the damage and reassess the recovery period from the right shoulder he dislocated in Holland. The Belgian is currently '50-50' to make the Grand Prix of Portugal and Grand Prix of Catalunya on successive weekends from May 9th although the team would prefer a full recovery before the 20 year old returns to action.
